Previously I mentioned Eli needed to have surgery. Well we can check that off the list and gratefully put that behind us. On the 22nd Eli had a penile torsion repair and circumcision. He had to be put completely under and the whole process took right at an hour. It was a long stressful and emotional time leading up to and through the procedure but everything went accordingly to plan and he did great. My biggest fear of course was having him put to sleep but he did great. Seeing him in recovery was such a relief and happy moment but also very hard to see our little guy laid up in a hospital bed still coming out of his drugged sleep. He was crying but couldn't make noises, was completely out of it and didn't have control over moving his body. They had me pick him up almost immediately and I got to snuggle and rock him for about 30 minutes. We then got him dressed, nursed him and were discharged! Amazing how fast things happen! Eli slept the whole way home. The staff at GHS is so great. They were so very informative. They think to do things like call the waiting room to inform you when he has been put under and let you know how he is doing. They even signed a get well card for him and included a print out of his heart rate while he was under. (Picture below).
It's been just five days since Eli's surgery and honestly his teeth coming in are giving him more pain and trouble then his surgical recovery! Everything is healing up just fine. (We will leave it at that as this will one day be a very embarrassing post for him. I just wanted to document the experience. :)
Let me tell you what- dressing your seven month in a hospital gown takes every ounce of courage you can muster. Tough moment here. Glad Eli was all smiles for us!!
